Schulz, a Jersey Shore native, began his design career by sculpting wood, metal and resin into sinuous forms inspired by the fluid surfaces of wood and water he avidly grew up riding on during the mid-80’s surf/skate culture. Drawing on his urge to create he followed up his B-Arch at NJIT in 1994 with several years of architectural practice in NYC, later to pursue an advanced master’s degree in architecture at “SCI-Arc” in Los Angeles. Following fruitful design positions with Frank Gehry, Ian Schrager, Dodd Mitchell and SBE, he has since teamed up with fellow SCI-Arc alum. Adam Goldstein, and long-time design confidant, Leslie Kale to form Studio Collective Design in 2009. One of Boutique Design Magazine’s “18 Up & Coming Designers of 2009,” and a guest speaker on KCRW’s Design & Architecture interview: “Designing a Vibe” in 2010, Schulz currently resides in Venice Beach and returns to the sea daily to ride the waves for inspiration and reflection….
